Can we re-invent the traditional imagery of architecture? And can it be understood and accepted?

Ksm Architects

We were tasked with rebranding an architecture firm recognized for its steadfast commitment to project delivery and adept navigation of bureaucratic challenges. This encompassed a complete overhaul, from crafting a new logo and selecting colors to introducing an entirely new design language, including a reimagining of the visual presentation of architecture renders.

At KSM West End Group & Enviornmental Designers, we embarked on a transformative journey to challenge the conventional imagery associated with architecture. In response to the need for a fresh and exciting presentation, we meticulously crafted a comprehensive visual design overhaul. This involved the development of a vibrant color palette, carefully curated to evoke a sense of modernity and creativity. In tandem, we introduced a contemporary typography style, strategically chosen to complement the dynamic visual language we were aiming to establish. The typography not only served as a functional element but became an integral part of conveying the firm’s forward-thinking ethos. Site drawings, a traditionally utilitarian aspect of architectural presentations, underwent a significant evolution. We reimagined them with a modern aesthetic, incorporating sleek lines and a refined visual language to ensure they aligned seamlessly with the overall design narrative. To inject an element of playfulness and enhance the comprehensibility of architectural concepts, we introduced a series of playful renderings. These not only served to captivate the audience but also replaced the old, traditional renderings usually associated with architecture projects. By doing so, we bridged the gap between technical aspects and the broader understanding of the audience, transforming the perception of architectural renderings into engaging and exciting visual narratives. The culmination of these efforts resulted in a holistic transformation of KSM Architecture Firm’s visual identity. The new design language challenges the normality of architecture by trying to make it more exciting. The firm’s projects are now presented in a way that is not only understood but celebrated for their modern, dynamic, and accessible appeal.

The logo uses negative space within the letterforms, forming organic patches of greenery reminiscent of top views of landscapes. This design not only symbolizes the firm’s commitment to sustainability but also creates a distinctive and memorable visual identity, embodying their dedication to thoughtful and harmonious architecture.

In KSM's color palette, a warm grey at 60% provides a versatile base, while 30% green reflects sustainability, and a 10% splash of orange adds vibrancy. This intentional color distribution ensures a visually engaging and cohesive design, aligning with the firm's contemporary values.

For KSM's social media, we blended vibrant visuals, dynamic typography, and engaging diagrams to reflect the firm's modern aesthetic and commitment to sustainable design. Playful renderings and filtered construction photos added diversity and visual interest to the feed.
